A clinical protocol is a written description of how the research study will be conducted. It describes who may participate in the research, the purpose, the schedule of tests and procedures, any medications, and the length of the study. It is a study plan on which the research is based and it is carefully designed to safeguard the health of participants as well as answer specific research questions.
